The Bulgarian-German Vocational Training Centre– Stara Zagora was established within a framework of a bilateral programme between the Bulgarian and the German government "Promoting repatriation and reintegration of Bulgarian emigrants", later transformed into a project "Vocational training and employment promotion".

The implementation of this large-scale task was assigned to the German company GOPA Consultants in partnership with the Craftsmen’s Chamber in Koblenz.

 Stara Zagora Municipality granted building to the centre and in 1993-1995 recosntruction works were carried out with the assistance of the municipality.

Along with the preparation of the building curricula was developed in automobile and agricultural engineering, installation equipment, metalworking and welding.

The syllabi was approved by the Ministry of Education.

On 05 Dec 1995 the centre in Stara Zagora was officially launched.

The training process started at the beginning of 1996 with training courses in automobile engineering and agricultural engineering. The first specialized seminars were also organized with leading companies - Bosch, WABCO, etc.

A consulting office was opened at the centre aiming at facilitating entrepreneurship and SMEs through training and consultations.

In 1997 computer literacy courses were started.

German language training stared in collaboration with Goethe Institute - Sofia.

Aiming at offering vocational training meeting the needs, in 1998 the centre introduced a new major for the country– orthopedic equipment. The interest in the new profession is great.

In September 1998 DBBZ – Stara Zagora was accepted in the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB) involving educational organizations from European countries. This is recognition for the high quality of training offered.

Since November 2001 DBBZ – Stara Zagora has been a structure at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. The collaboration and exchange of information with the Employment Agency, its regional employment services and the labour offices have improved.

In 2002 DBBZ – Stara Zagora is one of the first institutions licensed by the National Agency for Vocational Education and Training to organize qualification courses. The same year the centre was licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for providing training on how to work with agricultural machinery.

In May 2004 following an audit by the Austrian company System-CERT DBBZ–Stara Zagora was certified for ISO 9001:2000 and 5 years later, in 2009, for ISO 9001:2008.

The centre has institutional approval both on a regional and national level. The maintenance of close collaboration with companies makes it possible to find out real needs of qualification and to guarantee the maintenance of training equipment on the level of the latest technical achievements.
